Writer Igniter Reading Challenge Prompt 3: Five Promises

So, at the beginning of a novel, the author makes five promises to the reader: a character to root for, a voice for the tale to be told in, a world for the character to live in, a problem in that world, and the event that sets the story in motion. Tolkien makes all these promises within the first chapter of The Hobbit.

One of my goals for the year 2020 is to take my writing more seriously. To that end, I have signed up for the DIY MFA Writer Igniter reading challenge.

Merry Christmas!

So, the carols thing didn't pan out. But at least I can say that I wished the world a Merry Christmas today. My gifts this year were additions to my Tolkien library, the complete Blu-Ray box set of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a refurbished laptop that is late getting here, but that I'm nonetheless grateful for.

25 Days of Carols: An intro

So Blogtober fizzled out and November was pretty much a ghost town when it came to writing here. But have no fear. The Christmas season is upon us, and I've got a great idea to get me blogging through the holidays: every day starting tomorrow and going through Christmas Day proper, I'll be posting a video of a beloved Christmas carol, along with the carol's history.

Let me be clear on one point. I will only be posting Christmas carols. As in, the kind of Christmas songs one would sing in a church setting. No "Jingle Bells." No Rudolph or Frosty. And definitely no "Santa Baby."

The Christmas season is when I celebrate the birth of my personal Savior, Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection are the most important things to have ever happened in human history. And for me, posting something like "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" would be making those most important things cheap and laughable. And I will not do that.

Blogtober 2019 Day 9: Habits that need breaking

Well, this is a depressing subject. There are so many habits I want to be rid of; binge eating, staying up and sleeping in late, using my parent's money without their permission (often to binge eat). And that's the shortlist. 

Blogtober 2019 Days 7 and 8: Pet peeves and purses

First off, it's pet peeves, not pet hates. But since you asked, it's when people aren't exact with their words. Grammar, incorrect phrases, it all drives me nuts.

As for what's in my purse; wallet, lip balm, perfume, a pencil, and receipts.

Blogtober 2019 Days 5 and 6: Senses and Songs

I'll start with the senses first. Seeing my laptop and desk. Hearing a non-music video on YouTube. Feeling the keys on my keyboard. The lingering taste of an apple. And the smell of sweating from my walk earlier. Sitting upright, leaning slightly to the left if you want to add my sense of body position in there.
